Manchester (Manchester Mirror) October 28, 2026 — A 13-year-old boy has been taken to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries after a stabbing on Market Street, outside Manchester Arndale, in the third knife-related incident connected with the shopping centre in under a fortnight.

As reported by the BBC, Greater Manchester Police were called to Market Street at 19:00 GMT on Tuesday. A GMP spokesperson said officers located the 13-year-old and took him to hospital, where he was being treated for injuries that could significantly affect his life.

The force said two boys, aged 14 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of affray. Both remained in custody for questioning, and investigations were continuing.

Who has been arrested?

GMP did not name either suspect, consistent with normal practice involving children and people who have not been charged. The force said the two boys were aged 14 and 16 and were being questioned over the alleged affray.

No further details about the relationship between those arrested and the injured boy, the circumstances leading up to the incident, or any potential charges were confirmed in the police statement reported by the BBC and Manchester Evening News.

Why is this the third Arndale incident?

The latest case follows two earlier police responses linked to the Arndale in October.

As reported by the BBC, a 14-year-old boy was stabbed at Manchester Arndale on Saturday, 17 October. He was found in the centre’s ninth-floor car park and taken to hospital with injuries consistent with a stab wound; he remained in a stable condition. Two 14-year-old boys were arrested the following day on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

Detective Inspector Sean McFadden, of GMP’s City of Manchester district, thanked passers-by who helped the victim. As quoted by the BBC and Bury Times, he said their quick thinking had “undoubtedly saved him from potentially life-threatening injuries”.

GMP also said at the time that the 17 October incident was believed to be isolated and that there was no wider threat to the community. The force appealed for witnesses, CCTV, dashcam or mobile-phone footage, and asked anyone with information to contact police quoting incident 2050 of 17 October 2026.

What happened on 24 October?

A week later, on Saturday, 24 October, officers were called to reports of an assault involving a knife inside the Arndale Centre at about 12:50 BST.

As reported by Manchester Evening News, GMP said a man suffered minor injuries, believed to be a slash wound to his arm. Two males, aged 18 and 19, were arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a bladed article.

The force described that incident as isolated, with no wider threat to the public, but said people could expect extra patrols across Manchester city centre over the weekend. GMP also said the 24 October assault was not related or linked to the earlier 17 October stabbing.

Online footage, which Manchester Evening News and The Sun reported, appeared to show a security officer moving a knife away from the scene and securing it while awaiting police. The reports did not independently verify the footage or identify those involved.

What did police say about the latest stabbing?

In its statement on the 27 October incident, GMP said:

“Officers responded to reports of a stabbing outside the Arndale at 7pm last night, October 27, 2026. A teenage boy was located and transported to hospital with potentially life-altering injuries.”

The statement continued that two boys, aged 14 and 16, had been taken into custody on suspicion of affray and were being questioned, with investigations ongoing.

Manchester Evening News reported that police cordoned off an area near Roller’s café, while police vehicles, including a forensics unit, were seen on High Street and Withy Grove. An ambulance was also reported at the scene.

A local shopkeeper told Manchester Evening News that officers arrived at about 20:10 BST, although GMP’s official response time was given as 19:00 GMT. The discrepancy reflects the difference between the force’s reported call time and a witness’s account of when police were seen at the location.

What is known about the victim?

The victim in the latest incident is a 13-year-old boy. GMP has not released his name, and no details about his current condition beyond “potentially life-changing injuries” have been confirmed.

The earlier victim, a 14-year-old boy stabbed on 17 October, was reported to be in a stable condition in hospital.

In the 24 October case, GMP said the injured man suffered minor injuries; the force did not confirm his age.

What happens next?

GMP’s investigation into the Market Street stabbing remains active. The two arrested boys have not been reported as charged, and the force has not said whether further arrests are expected.

For the 17 October case, the two 14-year-old suspects were initially held in custody and later released on police bail, according to Manchester Evening News.

In the 24 October case, one suspect was later charged. Manchester Evening News reported that Marcel Forsyth, 19, of Gawsworth Close in Shaw, was charged with possessing a bladed weapon in a public place and assaulting an emergency worker. He was due to appear at magistrates’ court on Monday.

Background of the development

Manchester Arndale is a major city-centre shopping destination, and the recent cluster of incidents has prompted a visible police presence around Market Street, High Street and Withy Grove. The three reported incidents differ in location and circumstances: a stabbing in the car park on 17 October, an assault involving a knife inside the centre on 24 October, and a stabbing on Market Street outside the centre on 27 October.

GMP has not said that the three incidents are connected. In fact, after the 24 October assault, the force explicitly said it was not related to the 17 October stabbing. The description of the latest event as the “third incident involving a knife at Manchester’s Arndale centre within a fortnight” comes from the BBC’s reporting, which links the incidents by location and timing rather than asserting a common cause.

Prediction: how this may affect shoppers and local businesses

For shoppers, commuters and Arndale workers, the immediate effect is likely to be heightened caution around the centre, particularly during evening hours, alongside a continued police presence in surrounding streets. GMP had already said it would increase city-centre patrols after the 24 October incident, and the latest stabbing may sustain that visible policing.

For retailers and centre staff, repeated incidents can affect footfall, staffing confidence and security procedures, although the scale of any commercial impact cannot be assessed from the information currently available. The key uncertainty is whether police establish any link between the incidents; until then, the most reliable public guidance remains GMP’s earlier reassurance that individual incidents were treated as isolated and that there was no wider threat to the community.
