Mr Kintu and Taio Lee, also 18, of Styal Road in Heald Green, Stockport, were both remanded in custody and were due before Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on 5 November. Mr Lee has been charged with attempted Section 47 assault, an offence relating to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The charges came after Greater Manchester Police announced on 4 November that three people had been re-arrested in connection with Mr Brown’s death. According to the BBC, a 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old male were detained on suspicion of murder, while a 27-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Who was Adrian Brown?

Adrian Brown was a 34-year-old musician and father of three, known locally as Dre. As reported by ITV News, he was named locally as the victim after the fatal stabbing in Moss Side.

Greater Manchester Police said Mr Brown was found on Raby Street with life-threatening stab wounds to his chest after officers responded to reports of a serious assault on the evening of 8 May. He was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries.

The Manchester Evening News reported that Mr Brown had been at the West Indian Sports and Social Club in Moss Side before the attack. Detective Inspector Alex Wilkinson said the stabbing occurred at the club, with the incident continuing onto Raby Street.

Why have charges now been brought?

Police said the re-arrests followed the emergence of new evidence. As reported by the BBC, Detective Inspector Alex Wilkinson said investigators had spent nearly six months analysing witness testimony and reviewing CCTV footage to establish the sequence of events.

In a statement reported by The Scottish Sun, Detective Inspector Wilkinson said the force had been working “tirelessly” to establish what happened to Mr Brown. He said:

“These arrests show the progress we are continuing to make and our commitment to bring offenders to justice.”

The charges against Mr Kintu and Mr Lee represent a further development in the investigation, although criminal proceedings are now active and the allegations against both men have not been tested in court.

What did police say about the earlier investigation?

The investigation began after the fatal stabbing on 8 May. Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to Raby Street at about 23:00 BST following reports of a serious assault.

In the days after Mr Brown’s death, police made a series of arrests. The BBC reported that an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on 9 May, followed by a 24-year-old man. Two men, aged 25 and 38, and a 26-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

By 14 May, ITV News reported that a 17-year-old and two 18-year-old men had been arrested on suspicion of murder, bringing the total number of arrests to eight. The broadcaster reported that five people previously arrested had been bailed pending further investigation.

What happened at the West Indian Sports and Social Club?

Detectives appealed for mobile-phone footage from the West Indian Sports and Social Club as part of the murder inquiry. As reported by the BBC, police said Mr Brown was attacked outside the club’s main entrance at around 23:00 BST, with the assault continuing onto Raby Street, where he was later found with chest stab injuries.

The Manchester Evening News reported that Mr Brown was discovered with life-threatening injuries after the incident and died in hospital. Police have not publicly detailed a motive in the material covered by the available reports.

What happens next in court?

Mr Kintu and Mr Lee were due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on 5 November after being remanded in custody. A murder case would ordinarily proceed through the magistrates’ court for an initial hearing before being sent to the Crown Court, although the available reports do not confirm the later stages of this case.

A 27-year-old man has been released on police bail pending further enquiries, according to About Manchester. The BBC reported that the three people re-arrested on 4 November had previously been apprehended and released on bail in connection with Mr Brown’s death before being detained again for further questioning.

Background of the development

Adrian Brown was fatally stabbed in Moss Side on 8 May 2026. Police said he was attacked at around 11pm near the West Indian Sports and Social Club, and was later found on Raby Street with stab wounds to his chest.

Mr Brown’s family described him as a father of three whose “legacy will live on”, according to ITV News. His mother told the BBC: “They took my boy.”

The early investigation involved multiple arrests. The BBC reported that two men, aged 18 and 24, were detained on suspicion of murder, while three other people were held on suspicion of assisting an offender. Further arrests followed on 14 May, when police said a 17-year-old and two 18-year-old men had been detained on suspicion of murder.

Nearly six months later, on 4 November, Greater Manchester Police announced three re-arrests after new information emerged. The following day, About Manchester reported that Mr Kintu had been charged with murder and Mr Lee with attempted Section 47 assault.

Prediction: How could this affect Moss Side residents?

For Moss Side residents, the charging of two men is likely to bring the case into a more formal legal phase, but it does not conclude the investigation. The reported release on police bail of a 27-year-old man indicates that enquiries may continue, and residents may see further police activity or appeals for information if detectives identify outstanding lines of inquiry.

Local people who witnessed the events or hold mobile-phone footage may face renewed requests from investigators, particularly because police previously appealed for footage from the West Indian Sports and Social Club and surrounding area. The case may also keep attention on safety around late-night venues in Moss Side, although the available reporting does not establish any wider pattern of offending beyond this incident.

For Mr Brown’s family and friends, the court proceedings may provide a route through which the allegations can be examined publicly. For the wider community, the development underscores that the investigation has progressed from initial arrests to charges, while the ultimate outcome will depend on the evidence presented in court.
